Johns Island is South Carolina’s largest sea island — over 84 square miles of marsh-bordered land surrounded by the Stono River and Kiawah River systems. That means constant salt aerosol, relentless humidity, and a high water table that complicates every pool project. Most finishes weren’t designed for these conditions. Our thermo-polymer coatings were.

Johns Island’s rapid residential growth over the past decade has introduced hundreds of new pools into an environment that tests every surface material to its limit. The Stono River wraps the island’s northern and eastern edges, while Bohicket Creek and the Kiawah River define the south — creating a salt marsh corridor that delivers airborne chloride to every neighborhood on the island, not just waterfront lots. Add Lowcountry humidity that regularly exceeds 80% through the summer months, and you have conditions that eat through standard plaster in half the time homeowners expect.
The pools that hold up here share one thing in common: a surface that doesn’t absorb what the environment throws at it. Our thermo-polymer coating system is non-porous by design — salt aerosol, pool chemicals, UV radiation, and mineral deposits sit on top of the finish rather than penetrating it. That’s why pools we coat on Johns Island still look sharp after a full decade while replastered pools down the street are already showing etch marks and stress cracks within three to five years.
High-performance pool coatings built for Johns Island’s coastal-marsh environment, protecting residential and community pools with durable, low-maintenance finishes designed for long-term performance.
Fiberglass pools across Johns Island are exposed to salt air, marsh humidity, UV rays, and coastal conditions that accelerate gel-coat fading, oxidation, chalking, and blistering. Our polyFIBRO® thermo-polymer coating bonds directly to the fiberglass shell, creating a flexible, UV-stable, non-porous surface designed to resist peeling, moisture intrusion, and long-term coastal surface deterioration.
Concrete and gunite pools throughout Johns Island often develop rough texture, staining, algae buildup, calcium deposits, and premature plaster wear caused by salt exposure, humidity, soft water chemistry, and ongoing environmental stress. Our aquaBRIGHT™ thermo-polymer coating creates a smooth, non-porous, pH-neutral surface that resists staining, algae growth, mineral absorption, and repeated replastering cycles while delivering a longer-lasting finish for coastal residential pools.
From fiberglass blistering and surface delamination to structural cracks, leak-related substrate damage, and long-term plaster deterioration, we provide complete pool surface repair solutions for Johns Island homeowners, HOA communities, waterfront properties, and resort-adjacent developments. Every repair begins with identifying the root issue before restoring the surface using advanced thermo-polymer coating systems engineered for salt air, marsh humidity, UV exposure, and long-term coastal durability.
A pool on Johns Island isn’t just a backyard feature — in communities like Kiawah River and Briar’s Creek, it’s a core part of the property’s value and lifestyle appeal. When the surface starts roughening, staining, or showing hairline cracks, it quietly undermines the outdoor space you invested in. And the wrong resurfacing choice — cheap paint, low-grade plaster — just delays the same problem by a season or two in this environment.
We take a different approach. Before any coating is applied, we assess the pool shell for delamination, hydrostatic pressure damage from the high water table, osmotic blistering in fiberglass, and salt-driven subsurface breakdown in concrete. We repair what needs repairing at the structural level — then apply a thermo-polymer finish that bonds to the substrate rather than sitting on top of it.
The result is a pool surface that doesn’t just look new — it genuinely performs differently in Johns Island’s conditions. Lower chemical costs. Easier cleaning. A finish that holds its color through the full Lowcountry swim season and beyond.
Johns Island’s geography creates a pool surface environment that’s fundamentally different from inland Charleston or even other sea islands. The island is bordered by tidal marshland on nearly every side — the Stono River to the north and east, Bohicket Creek and the Kiawah River to the south. That perimeter of salt marsh generates airborne chloride that reaches every neighborhood, regardless of whether your property sits directly on the water.
On top of that, Johns Island’s water table sits unusually high across much of the island — particularly in communities built on reclaimed or low-lying land near the marsh. Draining a fiberglass pool without proper dewatering in these areas can cause hydrostatic uplift that cracks the shell permanently. We understand these site-specific risks because we work on Johns Island pools regularly, not as a one-off project between other jobs.

I would recommend them to assist with your fiberglass needs.Posted on Google Jorge AndazolaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Ken and Ashley and their crew at SC POOL RESURFACING were absolutely amazing. It was nerve-racking to see all the work that needed to be done on our fiberglass pool. Our pool had a leak for years and I finally decided to do something about it. But this team came in, assessed the situation with ease and got right to work. They were meticulous and careful not to damage the newly applied ecofibro material, especially when it came to fixing the bulge in the middle of the pool and would require cinder blocks to hold everything down. So they placed the cinder blocks on top of two 2x4’s, but wrapped the 2x4’s with non-adhesive tape so as not to damage the newly applied fiberglass —- Very impressive. They cared for the pool as if it were their own, and best of all, I could tell they took pride in their work. Thanks you all for caring! You don’t see that these days anymore. Enjoy the before and after pics! Obviously I’m still working on the pool deck.Posted on Google Suzanne JTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I got a beautiful new looking pool and filter in two days. The filter works so much better and pressure is not even up to 10 three weeks later. Algae problem is gone. They were professional knowledgeable and did what they said they would plus. Love my new pool.Posted on Google Alex BishopTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Straightforward, true to their word, exactly what we needed and wanted.Posted on Google James AnthonyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What's the first thing that comes to mind when needing a big $$ job done? Can I trust these people? Are they going to take my deposit and ride off into the sunset, or maybe head to Mexico with a bunch of deposits and never do any work? Much to my surprise after having another company come out that does the same job and wanting a large deposit, this company said that I didn't need to give them .01 cent before they finished the job. We have a large pool (concrete and old) that had several layers of paint on it. They brought in a professional sandblaster company that did the job the right way. We could see that we had some cracks in the old concrete and needed some other work done before going forward. Again they recommended the best man for the job to fix all of that. It was an added expense, but no reason to fix things half ass. He fixed the cracks the correct way, not the good enough way, put new pvc pipe in, added 2 new returns, redid the skimmer box, and a couple of other things. Was it an added expense, of course. But, we didn't want to just put a bandaid on this pool. Now it was time for Ken and his team of professionals to come in and do their part, the part we we're waiting for. They were here at the time they said they would be. They got the pool ready like it was their own before starting. Then they got to work. They made sure to prep things the way they should, without shortcuts, putting several layers of the resin on the concrete. Their product bonds to the resin, therefore the concrete walls and floor. Then came the exciting part, watching them put the 3 layers of their Eco-finish product on with what looks like flamethrowers. As soon as they finished with the 3rd layer, the immediately were able to start filling the pool with water. They never once made me feel like they were in the category of a used car salesman. Always answered or returned my calls when I had questions. They came over and made sure the other guys were getting things ready for them to be able to do the final job. I would definitely recommend Ken and the people he recommended to do the job right. If you want to come look at my pool before doing yours Ken will happily give you my phone number to do so. We did have another person that does the same job come out before Ken, and they wanted I want to say 50% down, they were from almost 2 hours away, and we just didn't get the same vibe from them as we did Ken. Thank you Ken, Ashley and the rest of your people for exceeding our expectations and bringing brand new life to my wife's favorite part of our little Plantation. To many years of memories for our family and always remember HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE. The Anthony's.Posted on Google Emory HaganTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It's safe when done correctly — but it requires knowledge of Johns Island's specific ground conditions. Many areas of the island, particularly near the Stono River marsh and in communities like Stonoview and Grimball Gates, have water tables that sit close to the surface. Draining a fiberglass pool without active dewatering in these zones can cause hydrostatic uplift — the ground water pushes up against the empty shell and can crack or shift it permanently. We assess ground water conditions at every Johns Island property before draining and use dewatering wells when needed. It's a step many general contractors skip, and the consequences are expensive.
